広島県の防災教育に、新たな体験を——研究知と制作思想を込めた災害体験VRの新規制作・提供

昨年に引き続き、広島県の防災教育に活用される災害体験VRコンテンツを新たに制作し提供いたしました。

昨年の取り組みを通じて私昨年の取り組みを通じて私たちが強く認識したのは、

『防災教育において真に重要なのは、単に教材を整備することではなく、それが地域の中で継続的に活用され、人々の意識と行動に確かな変化をもたらすことである』という点です。

防災は、一度伝えて終わるものではありません。 社会環境や地域課題の変化に応じて、絶えず問い直され、磨き上げられていくべき営みです。その意味において、今回の新たな制作・提供は、昨年の延長であると同時に、広島県における防災教育の次なる段階を形づくる、新たな出発点であると考えています。

また、災害に備えるためには、知識の普及だけでは十分ではありません。 多くの人は危険性を理解していても、実際の局面では迷い、判断を遅らせ行動をためう傾向があります。

言葉や資料だけでは埋めきれないその隔たりを乗り越えるためには、災害を自らの問題として受け止めるための「体験」が必要だと私たちは考えています。

私たちが災害体験VRに託しているのは、まさにその役割であり、単なる視覚的な再現ではなく、危機を自分ごととして捉え、備えと避難行動へとつなげていくための教育設計として、この取り組みを位置づけています。

今回の制作においても、水害表現の精度と教育的妥当性の面で、京都大学防災研究所との、現在も継続的している共同研究の知見が活かされています。 私たちは防災や災害医療の領域において、研究機関との連携を通じて蓄積された専門知を、社会の中で機能する体験へと変換していくことを重視してまいりました。 災害を扱う表現には、わかりやすさだけでなく、学術的な裏づけと現実に即した設計が求められます。 特に水害のように、地形、流れ、認知、判断、避難行動が複雑に関わる領域では、研究知に基づく構成が不可欠であると考えています。 今回の制作は、その知見を細部にまで反映しながら、広島県の防災教育の現場で活用されることを見据えて構築したものとなります。

私たち白獅子は、単にコンテンツを制作する会社ではありません。 また、研究成果を紹介するだけの存在でもありません。 研究により蓄積してきた専門的知見と、制作会社として有する3DCG・XRの表現技術、さらに社会実装を行うための運用設計とを接続し、現場で使われ、伝わり、残るかたちへと組み替えていくこと、それこそが、私たち株式会社白獅子の役割であると考えています。

この姿勢の根底にあるのは、「知識と言語の壁を超える」という理念です。

専門知は、それ自体が高度であればあるほど、一般の人々にとって遠いものになりやすい側面があります。

しかし、本来、防災に関する知識と判断の基盤は、一部の専門家だけに留まるべきものではありません。

行政、教育現場、地域住民、子どもたち、高齢者、あらゆる立場の人々に届き、それぞれの現場で生きるものであってこそ、はじめて社会的な力を持ちます。

私たちは、研究によって得られた知見を、体験というかたちに翻訳し、多くの人にとって理解可能で、行動につながるものへと変換することに責任があると考えており、それもまた白獅子の大きな強みと言えます。

防災教育において重要なのは、刺激の強さではなく、理解の深さです。

恐怖を強調することではなく、危険を適切に認識し、避難や備えに結びつけること。

地域の地形や災害履歴、想定される被害、学ぶ人の属性、教育現場での活用方法まで見据えながら、表現を設計すること。

そうした積み重ねがあってこそ、体験型コンテンツは一過性の話題に終わらず、地域に根づく教育資源となります。

私たちは今回もまた、広島県の防災教育に資するものとは何か？を話し合い、問い続けながら、制作に取り組みました。

広島県は、これまで幾度も大きな災害に直面し、その経験と教訓を積み重ねてきた地域です。

だからこそ、この地域で行われる防災教育には、単なる啓発にとどまらない重みがあると感じています。 過去の記憶を風化させず、次代へと引き継ぎ、具体的な備えへと結びつけていくこと。

その営みに対して、研究知と表現技術の双方を備えた体験型コンテンツで貢献できることは、私たちにとって大きな意義を持つものです。

今回新たに制作・提供した災害体験VRが、広島県の防災教育の現場において、地域の皆様、教育関係者の皆様、行政ご担当者の皆様に活用され、災害をより自分ごととして考える機会を生み出していくことを願っております。

Following last year’s initiative, we have newly created and delivered a disaster experience VR program for use in disaster education in Hiroshima Prefecture.

Through last year’s work, what we came to recognize most strongly was this:

What truly matters in disaster education is not merely preparing teaching materials, but ensuring that they are continuously used within the community and bring about real changes in people’s awareness and behavior.

Disaster preparedness is not something that can simply be communicated once and finished.It is an ongoing practice that must be continually reexamined and refined in response to changes in society and in local challenges. In that sense, this new creation and delivery is not only an extension of last year’s work, but also a new starting point that helps shape the next stage of disaster education in Hiroshima Prefecture.

At the same time, preparing for disasters requires more than the spread of knowledge alone.Even when people understand the risks, they often hesitate, delay decisions, and struggle to act in actual emergency situations.

We believe that to bridge the gap that words and documents alone cannot overcome, people need an experience through which they can accept disaster as their own issue.

That is precisely the role we entrust to disaster experience VR.We position this initiative not as a mere visual reproduction, but as an educational design that helps people perceive danger as something personal and connect that awareness to preparedness and evacuation behavior.

In this new production as well, the precision and educational validity of the flood-related expressions have been informed by the insights gained through our continuing collaborative research with the Disaster Prevention Research Institute of Kyoto University.

In the fields of disaster preparedness and disaster medicine, we have consistently placed importance on transforming specialized knowledge accumulated through collaboration with research institutions into experiences that can function meaningfully in society.

Expressions dealing with disasters require not only clarity, but also academic grounding and designs that reflect real-world conditions.Particularly in fields such as flood disasters, where terrain, water flow, perception, judgment, and evacuation behavior are intricately intertwined, we believe that composition based on research knowledge is indispensable.

This production was built with those insights reflected down to the finest details, while keeping in view its practical use in disaster education settings across Hiroshima Prefecture.

At Snowlion, we are not simply a company that produces content.Nor are we merely an entity that introduces research results.

We believe our role is to connect the specialized knowledge accumulated through research with the expressive capabilities of 3DCG and XR that we possess as a production company, as well as with operational design necessary for social implementation, and to reorganize them into forms that can be used in the field, clearly communicated, and retained over time.

At the foundation of this stance lies our philosophy:

“Transcending the barriers of knowledge and language.”

The more advanced specialized knowledge becomes, the more distant it can feel to the general public.However, the knowledge and judgment that support disaster preparedness should never remain confined to a limited group of experts.

Only when such knowledge reaches people in every position—government officials, educators, local residents, children, older adults—and comes alive in each of their real settings, does it gain true social power.

We believe it is our responsibility to translate insights gained through research into the form of experience, and to transform them into something understandable to many people and capable of leading to action. This, too, is one of Snowlion’s greatest strengths.

What matters in disaster education is not the intensity of stimulation, but the depth of understanding.

It is not about emphasizing fear.It is about enabling people to recognize danger appropriately and connect that recognition to evacuation and preparedness.

It is about designing expressions while taking into account the region’s terrain, disaster history, expected damage, the characteristics of learners, and how the material will be used in educational settings.

Only through such careful accumulation can experiential content become more than a temporary topic and instead take root as a lasting educational resource within the community.

Once again, we engaged in this production while continuing to ask ourselves what would truly contribute to disaster education in Hiroshima Prefecture.

Hiroshima Prefecture is a region that has faced major disasters many times and has accumulated the experiences and lessons that came with them.

That is precisely why disaster education in this region carries a weight that goes beyond simple awareness-raising.It is about preventing the memories of the past from fading, passing them on to the next generation, and connecting them to concrete preparedness.

To be able to contribute to that effort through experiential content that combines both research knowledge and expressive technology carries great significance for us.

We sincerely hope that the newly created and delivered disaster experience VR program will be used in disaster education settings throughout Hiroshima Prefecture by local communities, educators, and government personnel, and that it will create opportunities for more people to think of disasters as something personal.
